Overshot is pleased to offer a flexible and affordable mast hire service to professionals such as photographers, photogrammetrists, wireless operators, and anyone else needing to capture an aerial view.

The all-access 4x4 rig gets to places cherry-pickers cant, from stadiums to back yards, the possibilities are boundless. We can hoist suitable equipment in an efficent and safe manner, in almost any location, although attention to safety will always be paramount.

We use a Luksa 5 section winch-operated mast, which is 70ft or 20m tall. A 360 deg panoramic head enables you to look around in a complete circle as well as fully up and down.

The illustrations below outline the key steps to deploy the mast, shown fully extended in the image on the left.

With an experienced professional owner-operator our hands on service takes care of the technical side, leaving you free to concentrate on the photography.

When in transit the mast folds flat on the roof of our jeep the length of the jeep is only marginally increased by the mast mount, and therefore we are able to park in a standard sized parking bay. Clearance height must be at least 2.5m or 7ft6. A little extra space is required behind the vehicle for mast deployment.
It is possible to have equipment fully deployed in as little as 20 minutes but there are many issues to consider when choosing a location and setting up. Safety must always be the paramount factor, weather and in particular wind is a major safety factor.

The mast can be used without guyropes in winds of up to 20mph, in reality these things are best judged on a combination of factors including height, equipment weight and location.

Your Camera Equipment
Our mast was originally designed to hoist 6*6 and 35mm film equipment, with a TV adapter to see your shot. With the advent of digital live view, most if not all operations can be achieved via a laptop.
If you are currently able to operate your camera from a laptop there is a fair chance it will work on the mast, we use a USB cable but all cable options are theoretically possible as well as wifi, if you have it.

If you have not used us before then I would strongly recommend a test session, where we can iron out any technical issues and clarify equipment usage and insurance coverage. ( Currently UK £2m liability, adjusted when needed, job by job ).
There would be a charge of £125 + vat for this service, but if you go ahead with your booking then we will deduct this ammount from your final invoice.

Overshot Camera Equipment
We are currently using two Canon cameras. Our 8mp Powershot Pro1 has an integrated 28-200mm ( 35mm equiv ) L series lens which can be zoomed directly from the laptop, this is great for inspection type shots of chimneys, telephone masts, roofs etc.
Our main unit is currently a 12mp EOS 450 D, this camera has the advantage of Live View, but our lenses 10-22 and 18-55 must be zoomed manually. All images saved as RAW files from both cameras.

We use apple laptops and have onboard charging facilities for batteries and computers.

If you are hiring kit, then we recommend any canon with liveview.
